http://www.epplerart.com/Epplerart%20site/index%20R2X.htmThere are so many ways to mark a person's life.
One of them for me is birds... I remember catching glimpses or leisurely views of birds, or keeping some... and they all help me mark my life in time.I wanted to promote this sculptor as I just happened to come across his site, above, and it reminded me of all the birds and all the tales (homonym unintended) it engendered.
I've already told the tale of the peacocks, doves, and pheasant in Cumberland, but there are so many more to mine eventually. -Owl fell out of a nest; kept until old enough to give to the protective society at my friends' farm. When it would turn its head, and I would be standing less than a foot away, the lantern eyes were almost too glorious to behold.
-Golden eagles - first time in California; a revelation of them. Reminds me of a dear lost friend who gave up her own life so that her unborn baby could be delivered before her cancer took both their lives..... S. S. What a brave woman; I think of her often. We had one wonderful day, staying out of the white water number 5(?) rated river, talking and listening to The Cure before all of it came out. Eagles where there in Wenatchee, WA.
-Ravens on Mount Rainier - I remember when a docent came to school to talk about the intelligence and high altitude life of ravens. Finally saw some on a morning with the mists rising up and up the green lifts to the lofty, ultimate height.
-We had rude Blue Jays living on the east coast, and I remember how surprised, delighted, and appreciative I was seeing the iridescent beauty of the Stellar's Jay for the first time.-Magpies in Oregon, the time I had the opportunity to see a baby born for the first and only time. Sitting on a fence post as C.H. walked through her labor, C.S., her husband, following with a stop watch. Threads of radiant light connecting everyone in the room, and the mother I spoke with today was the only one who remembered at the precise moment, "Take the pictures, L.E.!" which was my advance notice job. It's amazing they came out at all, let alone as well as they did.
-Bald eagles on a deck overlooking Puget Sound from a beautiful house lent to a gaggle of gals on Whidbey Island. So many more.... but for another time. I know I always say so, but who can put it all down at once?
