Slippin and a'Sliding Away

I was driving across Kansas in a VW van. Return trip of the 'Painted Desert' story earlier. It was a ferocious ice storm, but I had it down. I locked my arms in and managed to glide along the straight and narrow highway like I was above the sheet of it. There was a feeling of glory in it, as if I was some magical driver with the elements at my command.

Went about a hundred miles before I spun out, circled around, and hit the railing. Guess they are really truly there for a reason; I'm thankful that one was in that place.

Problem was it was one of those drive someone else's car operations to get their car to them - cool deal; they might still have them if you need to go somewhere near or far and don't want to put the miles on or lack a vehicle altogether.

We pulled over; I got out of the car to survey the damage (not much, thankfully), but unfortunately slipped with my first step and really whacked my bottom. :) We very careful managed to get the van to the side of the road, and even more carefully walked down the ramp to the VERY nearby exit and to a handy diner, holding each other up all the while.

Everyone was stuck there. It was packed with people looking out the window and door to see when they could leave. It was many many many hours later. Boooooorrrinnng! But no where else to go. Amused ourselves with 20 questions and similarly silly stunts.

Finally we had enough. To heck with it, and off we went with nary an incident more!

Kansas is beautiful like you wouldn't believe, by the way.

I suppose I'll feel compelled to tell the 'nary' story later....
