Is there anybody.... out there? (Pink Floyd, "The Wall")

...from the album, "Relics" - 1971

I went to see "The Wall' performed in NYC.
The band came out after the stage-constructed earthquake
Tore down the wall
All in white, playing flutes. In a single line of linen.
After all that darkness, bitterness, and self-loathing,
Lightness and sweet tones.

I had an argument with an old friend after seeing the movie a couple of years afterward.
This was when it first came out, almost 30 years ago.
She said it was not worth seeing things that dark.
I said you had to recognize where things really were in order to move forward.
I feel bad that we argued, still to this day.
And don't know whether either was right, if any.
Still.

Thirty years, but maybe it's just not knowing today.
I've crossed into a different state with this flu.
Its borders have walls.
And I can't see beyond, but try to look up.

The sky is open, and continues...
We can take this lesson and go whichever way
We want.

The Ambassador of Morning

Welcome to my first ever blog. Woohoo! Someone told me it would be neato. And that's a quote. This name is from the Pink Floyd song, Echoes... on Meddle. I always wanted to make a t-shirt, but it's only here instead. Thirty-six years later. Coincidence? I think not.

"Echoes (Waters, Wright, Mason, Gilmour) 23:27

Overhead the albatross
Hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves
In labyrinths of coral caves
An echo of a distant time
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine.

And no one called us to the land
And no one knows the where's or why's.
Something stirs and something tries
Starts to climb toward the light.

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me.
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand
The best I can.

And no one called us to the land
And no one crosses there alive.
No one speaks and no one tries
No one flies around the sun....

Almost everyday you fall
Upon my waking eyes,
Inviting and inciting me
To rise.
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning.

And no one sings me lullabyes
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky...."
