Thirteen Senses

I think, but am not sure of the exact number,
That scientists have climbed up to 39 senses,
Humans possess, so far.

Though it's tidy and familiar to keep to the five.
We know and have loved for so long
Like the fingers on each hand.

Just think how the struggle still
Rages over a six sense
When electricity, proximity, and
Many more have been tested successfully.

This was the most non-spoilery and lovely
Video I could find, since the original video
Of the band playing in black and white
Could neither be embedded nor sync'd accurately.

I think it represents in a beautiful way
Something about being in perfect sync
With others, while also being perfectly
Alone.

It's the piano, I think, that captures here.

Here's the description, au Francais, I believe:

Voici le premier clip que j'ai fait sur la célèbre chanson "into the fire" de Thirteen Senses. Clip réalisé sur des images "Des Chevaliers du ciel"(Sky Fighters) avec comme acteurs les fameux Mirages 2000.
Clin d'oeil à mes collègues de travail ALKANAIS ;-)  >

I

After an Absence

I dedicated myself to a discipline here
As I knew it would be a good thing to keep
Something going on a regular basis

A practice of some creative task
I care about.

I've been distracted and then
Sick - on this side, time-wise

I'll start out slow
Pick myself and dust myself off
Recommit.

With this time-lapse piece.
I really like seeing the flow of
Time.

Light, silhouette, movement
All presented through a very
Disciplined photography setup.

Hope you enjoyed this one.
I did.
It helped me relax
When I most needed it.

Here is the description, some not in English; some is...

Darjeeling Limited

I took a lot away from this movie.
About families and friends,
Expectations and patterns,
Love and disappointment

It's a beautiful Wes Anderson culture clash
Of family members and countries as well.

If you haven't seen it...
There's a great deal to laugh about
A caricatature of how people often feel
About personal development.

Their own and others' as well.

MST3K mash-up

Sweet dreams and good night, hopefully for you and me both.
Couldn't leave you with bits of violence and tragedy,
However well intentioned.
So here's a beloved host segment - the third - from
The "Mad Monster" episode.
With - 'Yay' - Joel back in the day.

No worries & nothing to fear,
I had two LOL's myself thought I've seen it many a time before
Better sleeping conditions to pause at, me thoughts....
Now you can do something gooooooood for yourself afterward.

Some Different Eire Faces in Film

I tend to love Irish filmaking, or films about Ireland...
From all sides of the camera and planning.
I would like to be able to identify what qualities make it unique and special to me.
It might have something to do with the tales and the first few pages of the book, "Away."
I don't know; but here are some I like.
I expect to edit and add to this later when I'm less tired...
As I have more thoughts... eh, what?

The Crying Game

Nick Mason Drumming Live at Pompeii ~ Remember or Not?

Conflicted again - not really sure what to say on a number of subjects here.
I'll just list the pros and whatevers, shall I?
Tired.

1-Absolutely loved being introduced to this when I was 15. Quite memorable groups of friends at the introductory time, only one of whom I remember their name. Cutting out of school and listening to the Pink Floyd collection - thus far  - all day long.

2-There's a post in this blog earlier about Keith Moon, who seems a maniac genius in comparison, but Mason has heart - I'll give him that, and...

3- playing at night in a coliseum in Pompeii ~ does it GET any cooler.... literally too, probably.

4- I feel badly about the lyrics at the beginning as I have no desire to cut anyone into little pieces, or big ones for that matter, but having posted about destruction leading to new beginnings, I don't know what to say anymore.

5- conflicted about drumming as it's supposed to light fires inside you, that might be better left cool... but I love drumming when it's cooking.

6- So... my apologies for violence and delight at past meets future one night.

7- Still conflicted and posting: who does that?

8- The reason this movie - of which this nighttime lullaby is just a teensy piece - is very special to me is that N.S. and I showed it at college when we ran the Yearly Entertainment Committee (mentioned in the Shatner post before) and would sit in the front row and watch it night after night, showing after showing for a week or two on a huge screen, after already loving the song in simply audio.

Again... I don't know what to say now any more than I did before. But now there's a post where not yet existed.

It's so 70's in some ways.... isnt' it? Remember that time? Some of you?

One more of Mr. Fauth's

"Metallic Wing" by S. Fauth

One more by Mr. Fauth. Couldn't help myself, but
Not much to riff on but Terminator, which isn't
Exactly what I had in mind, if you know generally what I mean.

How excited everyone must have been when they came up with
Stainless Steel. And then titanium. Such a concept - shiny is good.
Something that doesn't oxidize, rust, tarnish, all the entropic
Things that usually happen.

In "A Room with a View," the main character says that her mother
Will not let her play Beethoven on the piano - except for the pastorals
- As it tends to make her peevish.

See how well Mr. Potter's series did at teaching that little piece of
Vocabulary?

Anyway, this fractal causes me to feel that way:
Peevish...
Like I have an itch that won't quite leave.
And it's in my Brain.
An image can do that? What a concept.

It's rush hour out the window.
A lovely, rustic, moving painting.
Add two cats in the bow of 4 panes, and you have
Something.

Bon Ami Cleansing Powder

Does anyone out there remember Bon Ami Cleansing Powder?
I just wondered.
It's one of those little triggers that brings loving days
With my grandmother streaming back to me.
There was always a can to the left of the sink.
And I thought the lil chick on it was so cute!

Turns out it's pretty green and there are pages
Out there touting its use for environmental  reasons.
I'll put one below.

It's funny to me that I've thought of Bon Ami
All these years. 120 to be near exact.
For real.

"Fire Snail" Fractal Photo Riff1

Fire Snail
Created by Sven Fauth.

Fire is what looks best on the television, I think.
Thank you, Mr. Fauth, as this is one of the most beautiful
Fractals I have ever seen.

In Leonardo, we had four or five fires a year
In the fragmites reeds that coursed down to the bay
Behind the house

It was a suspenseful tale, full of beauty and fear
Adrenaline too... In the end,
Wind could have been villain or hero,
and always - after a nail-biting, dithering display,
Opted for the latter,
Thankfully.

It's an odd feeling to be awoken at 3am and told to
Put your shoes on: Fire.

After that it's all sirens and meaningless vocalizations.
And me with my shoes on. At 3am.

And now for the snails -
How much of my plantings - what percentage of my efforts
Have you eaten, dear slimers, over the years,
Leaving your trail behind you
Like a Hansel and Gretel who may never go home, but keep
Searching and hunting for the delicious and munchable.

In the Great Pacific Northwest, there are many varieties of
Snails and Slugs (shell-less), searching with asymmetrical antannae
For people plantings and volunteers too.
Food for slugs - there are worse things to provide to the world,
I guess.

hdr-96stone wall.jpg
A mountain caracara (Phalcoboenus megalopterus) taking off at Machu Picchu, Peru. October 2007.

There is a great deal to be said about stone walls.
This picture stirred things in my memory
Another riff. Here we go.

So many events form a stone's shape
And a person comes along and fits those different shapes
Into something with lines and form for a while

A longer time than other materials; that's for sure. Well that's false now that I think about it - plastic, titanium... but you get the gist.

I remember roaming through Northeastern U.S. hills & forests,
Coming upon stretches of stone walling
Here and there,
Where nary a structure nor any human construction
Was visible - no trace but stone to mark a passing.

The wall in the photograph, for example...
Has some explaining to do, all in questions though
Answers can come from within. Fiction style?

Who made it? What were they like?
How long did they stay?
Did they build anything else,
Now long gone?

What state of being were they in as they carefully....
Found, chipped(?), and placed each stone to make
Something durable, useful, a mark of their passage
In time.

The stone wall so planted in space
The bird so unfettered.
Contrast staged by voluminous clouds
But we won't get into that right now.
