What Is It About Vampires?

TheYoungMartyr.jpg
"The Young Martyr, 1855" by Paul Delaroche

I often find myself enjoying stories about them,
'Dracula,' 'The Historian,' 'Buffy,' Angel,' Dark Shadows...'
So I thought I'd try to list the 17 things I think
Intrigue me, without stopping to consider.
A brainstorm of the undead.

1-They live forever
2-Often teeter on the edge of evil & redemption
3-Giving up one's blood as a form of sacrifice
4-Or cleansing, like with leeches to cure disease
5-Caught at a particular age,
6-And potentially having wisdom far beyond
7-Dangerous but gentle-personly
8-Difficult relationships with mortals understanding
9-Attraction to Life Left Behind
10-Attraction to Death
11-Special powers over others
12-Undying Love and 'victims'
13-Various stories of garlic, night, etc. as weakness
14-Their Initiation Story, often an act of mercy
15-Modern Only: The ethical struggle...
16-No access to the bright hereafter
17-Plenty of access to memory, history, regret?

I heard that the currently known as 'Edward' actor
Was grazed by a NYC taxi cab today.
Hope he's okay - and it took me until today to
Figure out where I knew him from:
Cedric Diggory in that other series...H.P.

I may've loved the Twilight series- who knows -
Had it been written by a different author or the same one
In a number of years from now.

Good story - repetitive writing for my taste, but I know
Plenty of people who love it, and that speaks volumes.
No harm meant.
Ever.

I mean - I'm only warming up and have nothing to say
She did come up with a sweet take on an age-old plot.
I wish her much success in the future as now.

Dear Old Acqaintance, Mr. Shatner on Conan

Had to put this up as I already posted
Earlier about my experience
Meeting the man.

Something in the way he speaks
Sums up my take on his meekness.

Riding in the car with him
And watching in disbelief as he
Threw himself, painfully, on the stage.

'Conan is tall' - my final word on this clip.

We Could Be Heroes - pt 2 Revisionismistically

"Kuan~Yin, Goddess of Compassion"

I was looking back at something I had written,
Associated, 'put together' here
A couple of days ago

I named my minimal contribution,
"We Could Be Heroes," but
Didn't include the obvious song.

Not a fashion statement, but a train of thought.
That has so far wound up here...
Compassion.

Through the trailer for the movie in the earlier post
To the depiction of Kuan-Yin above

All the way to these two performances more than
Thirty years apart
That draw such distinctions about the
Seasons of Life.

I feel such compassion from and for each.
Tonight I was thinking of the scene in
Baz Luhrmann's "Moulin Rouge"
Where E.M. and N.K. sing David Bowie's
"Heroes."

So I scoured about for video clips
Of Mr. Bowie performing his song.
The top was in 2006; the bottom in 1977.

I was impressed with the differences and
Occasional similarities.

In the newer version, so much emotion
Wells up in the performance... almost a struggle
With voice at the beginning, until the
Feelings break through that.

There seems to be joy and
Questions and interaction, a
Reaching out, rather than restrained

The earlier version shows a man who has mostly
Choreographed every muscle in his face
In order to offer a highly stylized interpretation
Of why he wrote the song in the first place -
And something of who he saw himself to be
At that time.

An observer can see something that was not
Choreographed but genuine to its own moment
Breakthrough.

What must such an iconic song
Mean to the writer 30 years later?

What did it mean originally?
You can flatter yourself that you know
Just by seeing him singing it
As I do. Sometimes.

Effect Precedes Cause Causes Time Effect

At first I watched this clip not realizing that its sound was off.
It just goes to show how sometimes sound doesn't make any difference
Or its difference is so profound that it makes it a whole other thing.

I watched this a couple of times and it changed what it was for me
With music and without, and as I processed what I was seeing and after.

I think it's a splendid example of  planning and implementing
Outside a few boxes.
At least ones that I own.
Therefore, I can learn something from it...
Just now sure what that is yet, and how far or how much energy
To put into pursuing it. Down to its nubbly roots.

Hot Air Balloon

Cool air meets warm air
Rather quickly
Colors ripple and expand
To carry people
Somewhere they'll always remember.

My sister and brother-in-law went up in one
Exhilarating and doable, she said.
Movement is a thing for me these days... but
I still get excited when I think about it
Relaxedly.

We Could Be Heroes

In unexpected ways.
Unexpected ways.
In unexpected ways.

A movie many missed, unfortunately
Unless you can't get past the style.
Lots of multi-tasking to put the puzzle together,
But don't you like that...
Occasionally?

One song in my head while I wrote this last bit only,
And it's very silly indeed:
"Ruby" by The Kaiser Chefs.
Not proud but accepting.

Mix Match,
Switch Swatch
Cricket Rugby One more...
Difficult. Late. Night...

We Are Human...

And so the Stories that are significant
Have been imprinted on us
From the time of a
Twinkle in two pairs of eyes.

Again and again they arise,
With different geography,
Different clothing, and footwear too.

"The Promise trailer 2005 Original title: Wu ji"
And so it goes...

All imprints are moving in some sense,
Depending on the evolution
Of the artist's ability to create
In his or her medium.

Another Princess and Warrior.
There are so many variations
On that theme.

Sometimes I love to
Ferret out the slight
Shadings and castings
That emerge in each iteration.

What insight can they give me?

What remains essential?

Mostly Kittens Especially for Mom

Hope this is something along the lines of
What you were looking for, Ma.

There are many similar photos
As one usually has to take a handful
In order to capture the decent picture
What with all the not-moving
And lazing about they're doing.

I will soon send a little gallery
Of the day folks all came to see
Cinamminson...
I think.

Have to get over myself first.

Lots of love....  ;)

"The Princess and the Warrior"

I often find myself loving movies
That other people 'don't care for.'

I can't remember whether this is one of them
Because this came from a stream of
Consciousness where I was going to post

The trailer for Tom Tykwer's "Heaven,"
But couldn't find a good enough copy.

Central issues are similar,
And this movie spoke more clearly,
But less simply,
So here you go...
Filled with action and poetry - and little words too.

"The Princess and the Warrior trailer Original title: 2000 Krieger und die Kaiserin, Der Cast: Franka Potente Benno Fürmann" Thank you, iczaaa.

Shoulder Holster

Sitting here.
Watching, listening, maybe sharing.
True - I get to pick this evening.
But I know I'll still like it
Tomorrow.

When I pick again.

But then, you can too,
So I don't feel too self-focused
Though of course we all know...

Supremely mellow.
Staring at a few pictures while listening to
One song, thanks to 'thedevilzone'
For this one.

Love the first pic
Ture

Love Skye's voice - as I've said before
In posts about Morcheeba.
I have another one I'd like to share,
But I'll save it for tomorrow...

Don't want to tire you out toooooo quickly.
I'm hopeful about that.
What's the alternative?

At your ease
