The Postscript Girl 2 ~ Moon

I meant to include this trailer
With the last post.
But it winds up  here in the end.

Seems spoilery, but it's not.... really.
Still, if you're sensitive to such things
You might not want to watch it.

Just a heads' up.

Reminiscent and a tip of the hat
To many movies, like Silent Running,
2001: A Space Odyssey, and others;

It still has something new and
Beautiful to offer on its own.

Sam Rockwell is amazing.
I really liked it, but probably
Not for 'everyone.'

Three Icons and the Moon

I went to see the movie, "Moon,"
And was lucky enough not only to see
That, but this trailer in the previews.

Can you believe this?
What a jewel is possible here.
I can't wait!

The trailer is in the middle, so just
Ignore the talkity talk at start and finish....

On the River

This video clip reminded me of so many river trips.
And I've lived on rivers twice in my life.
They are beautiful to behold and meditate upon.

They have their own particular music...
Each and every one.

Also, since this clip takes place in similar mountains,
I've added a clip of a movie~true story~ that I
Certainly recommend.

Travel

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness.
Broad, wholesome views cannot be acquired by
vegetating in one little corner of the earth.
~Mark Twain

(Thanks for the quote, cousin S. S.)

I have found this to be true
In so many cases
And people I know.
Try it.... if you so desire....

The Postscript Girl

This is a video of the glass blower,
Dale Chihuly... that should have
Gone with the previous post...

Having lived in Seattle and various
Other places in the state of
Washington, his work can be seen
Easily.

Sleeping Lady

'The sculpture, In the Garden of Dreams, was made
by brother and sister team Sue and Pete Hill.
This sculpture was created as a sister to the
Mud Maid which can be found at the
Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall. (Source)'

This sculpture reminds me of The
Sleeping Lady in central Washington.
It's a beautiful, nature-oriented, down to the
Gourmet organic menu, as a place to
Stay or have a conferences.

It's named for the way the hills are shaped
Behind it, back by the river, that look like a
Lady, sleeping on her side.

I suppose it's easy for hills to do that
Anyway, but these really do have a
Resemblance.

The accommodations are lofts, some of them
And really good nights of sleep are often
To be had there...

The 'tavern' is a cave down, down,
Very cool.

And here and there sprinkled in the
Vastness of the natural world are the
Brilliant (pun alert!) glass sculptures
Of artist, Dale
Chihuly
Who has a website at:
http://www.chihuly.com/

Here's T.S.Lady's website url:
http://www.sleepinglady.com/home/
Just in case you're ever in the area,
You can come on up...

Where nature, people, art, & music
Come together.

It's Wet!

Water, water everywhere...
But not a drop to drink.

So goes the well-worn jingle
To help us remember that
Salt water, which comprises
Most of the water on Earth
Is not potable, drinkable, etc.

All dinosaur spit in the end...
Recycling at its finest
Except maybe for our
Food chain topper

Illness breeding in wet places.
One child dying from
Waterborn disease every
Eight seconds.

Boy, does the southern hemisphere
Currently get hit harder
Than seems fair.
Lucky for northeners, BUT...
Things always change

Supposedly the two main
Aspects of global urgency,
Not counting from outside
Our atmosphere

Are global warming and water shortage.
What do you think about the drink?

I remember a cartoon I saw
Of Nancy and Sluggo (remember them?)
When I was very young.
It made such a strong impression on me,
Which has lasted lo' these many years.

Nancy can't go out to play for many days
As it's raining on and on, so she makes a
Wish that it never rain again.

Consequences are many and varied.

** Why world's taps are running dry **
Many people think they have the solutions to the deepening global water crisis,

but the real answer will involve us all.

Aircards

"Eagle"

There are many people out there
Who already know this,
But I thought I'd share with
The ones who might need just
Such a helpful device,
Say on a trip across the continent
To share the word of peace...

There are aircards that give you
Wireless Broadband Internet service
Even in the remote and wild places.

Just Google it, and you'll see!

USB and good to go.

Children, Rulers, & Rubicons

Acoustic track video of
Beck's song, "Orphans"
From the album,
"Modern Guilt."

Lyrics:

Think I'm stranded but I don't know where
I got this diamond I don't know how to shine
In the sun where the dark winds wail
And these children leave their rulers behind
As we cross ten leagues from a rubicon
The matchsticks for my bones
If we can learn how to freeze ourselves alive
We can learn to leave these burdens to burn

Cast out these creatures of woe
Who shatter themselves
Fighting the fire with your bare hands

Now my journey takes me further south
I want to hear what the blind men sing
With their fossils and their gypsy bones
I'll stand beside myself so I'm not alone
And how can I make new again what rusts every time it rains
And the rain it comes and floods our lungs
We're just orphans in a tidal wave's wake

If I wake up and see my maker coming
With all of his crimson and his iron desire
We'll drag the streets with the baggage of
Longing to be loved or destroyed
From a void to a grain of sand in your hand

Ahhhh
Ahhhh ooh ooh
Ahhhh oooh ooh
Ahhhh oooh ooh

I'll do myself a favor and
Let the lyrics stand without
Comment.

Celluloid Montage of Fame and Mortality

"Celluloid Heroes" riff
Goes something like this.... ;)

I've always thought this song
Melodic and sweet...
As many of the non-pulsating
Kinks' songs are.

Listening to it again
In a different phase of life
A number of things come to mind.

Bittersweet

Ray Davies of the Kinks
Was only in Hollywood for 2 weeks
When he wrote this song:

Everyone is a star in their own life.

Success goes hand in hand with failure.

"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages."
As You Like It Act 2, scene 7, 139–143

Lonely lives can come from
Fame and its opposite as well
It's just that you can see it on
Hollywood Boulevard ~
The names in concrete
That are gone and gradually
Forgotten ~
By most.

I could see that from some of
The photographs.

It was a sort of like a
Rorschach test - the associations
I felt when I saw each face
In this montage

In this culture, where fame
And temporary parts on the world stage
As films are one of the U.S.'s major exports
These days...
Representation of Story
Carry human souls behind the
Roles they play.

J.D. and I don't feel the same way
When most famous people pass away.

To me, they play out aspects of my very own
Journey and become bittersweet mortals
That live on a while past our own spans.
So, there's a grief and loss and then
It's down to Memory.

I remember when I saw Groucho's star.
I was a teenager when he died,
He was the first and only celebrity for which
I ever wore a black arm band.
