Tragedy Underground

25 Dead, 4 Missing After W.Va. Coal Mine Blast
http://m.npr.org/news/front/125600287

Ever since I sat in stunned silence
Watching the brilliant film, 'Matewan,'
and much later, 'October Sky,' and others;
I've been aware of the difficult past and
Present of coal mining... or any form of work
Which daily puts human beings in the constant
Knowledge of mortality and life
Underground... away from the sun.

Originally the story was:
NPR.org » Six Dead, 21 Missing After W.Va. Coal Mine Blast

Sometimes, as with an earthquake, tsunami or
Other disaster, the earth will rise or open up to
Meet the fate and destiny of living beings.

These people - and canaries still, I imagine - go down
To seek the energy that powers our world
As it is.
Perhaps some day they will drill deep enough
To find patents for better ways to collect energy
From decades ago when it was so strongly discouraged
To use sun and wind to a large part... instead.

The desire to place blame is strong in me right now,
But it will never do those families and friends
Of loved ones lost any good at all.
And the miners themselves, who have traded life
in the world above to go to ground for good.

Forgive my emotional nature.
I mean no harm to anyone.
Just reflecting on a job history riddled with tragedy
And pawnsmanship.

I send my heartfelt wishes to those who loved
The life of these people and now remember
Amid waves of mourning.
While the sun has not yet decided to rise here today.

Tears this early morning news gathering day...
Again...

New! GODDESS GIRLS (with co-author Joan Holub, Aladdin)
A series that puts a modern spin on classic Greek myths, for ages 8 - 12

Today Is the 205th Birthday of...

Hans Christian Andersen, mover of mountains,
Hearts, & seas with words!

Now I think we can all agree that 205 is
A certain kind of milestone in time.

Happy Birthday, Hans, though I'm guessing
You've changed your name once again by now.

I was going to start an every-so-often little game here
Where I post the first paragraph of an important'
Work of literature (; I probably still will... later)

And you all can suss it out, or not, as the case may be.

But THIS story, one of my favorites by this master of the short form
deserves to be read in entirety.
Don't worry, it won't take long, whether
Familiar with it you are... or not (says Yoda)

So, this time you get the whole story, via
This link:

Enjoy in that bittersweet way Hans Christian had
Down to a tee.

P.S. Check out the Google splash page to see their take,
If you so desire. Brew, stir, drink with honey. (gone now)

"Time of the Gypsies" ~ Ederlezi

This was a poignantly painfully beautiful film
I saw back in the day.

Each of the following uploads
Just shows still shot rather than video -
I'm guessing it's to make it easier to close our eyes.

Ederlezi is a song accompanying one of the more
Memorable scenes from this extraordinary
Capture of magical realism
From an  ancient culture that brings it to the
Here and Now

I cried for hours on the ground after seeing it.
But that's just me...
If you know me,  you'll understand the
Empathic, Effusive nature behind it all.

The One - the whole and only
A film.

I wanted to put the clip from the film's  scene
But due to nudity, I'll leave it out -
Easy enough to find on YouTube...
Such a shame... as it's beautiful and wholesome.
Naturally yours.

Still sorting out what to do about these matters.
But as I'm THIS TIRED I thought I'd leave that
Thinking thing for another time...

As far as the movie's themes ~another time as well....
Por favor.
To sleep perchance to dream, tis my hope for this night.

First iteration from film; second from studio.
