Northern Star Records

"Welcome to Northern Star Records.

We are the premier digital download vendor for psychedelia, indie, experimental, spacerock, ambient and underground sounds.  You will love what we have to offer in our store.  Please feel free to browse and provide feedback to us if there's something you'd really like to see in our store."

I'd like to share this website as they have bands that you may
Possibly be interested in ~ to explore afresh or listen again.
It's a good place to explore as you can listen to the entire song before deciding if you
Would rather purchase, own, keep it for your offline listening pleasure.

Not all the records have that listening feature, so look around and see what's up.
Lots of them do.

Gorgeous Blue Marble Home World

This article is definitely worth the look and skim/read
Even though I've posted the two most recent photographs
Of our Earth here as well, they're much larger @ the link.

It's a fascinating history of photography of the planet.
The better the camera, the clearer you get,
With all your winds and currents set in motion
Regardless of the still shots seen here.

This is the URL for the article; take a look:

"On a clear day.... Nasa reveals
mesmerising 'blue marble' images of Earth"

And the images may bring up countless words
Or a poignant silence.
Hard not to have some sort of response;
At least it was evocative for me.

Jimmy Page; Ever a Need to Battle at Evermore?

Here are two clips of Jimmy Page,
The second more current than the first
It takes place as a bit of an interview in the movie, "It Might Get Loud."
But the best thing is watching him listen to music
He loves as much as I sit and smile when watching
The first clip over and over again, especially until the change-up
At about 1:50 into it, the quiet relationship can be seen.
Lost in playing his instrument, and I'm pulled right into the zone.

Happy Belated St. Patrick's Day!

It's a long story, and in the end there's neither fault nor blame,
But I did sleep through that greenest of holidays which makes one
Cast their heart toward the Emerald Isle,

If it weren't for Ireland, we would have had a loss of culture, science, & the arts
During Europe's Roman period, Dark Ages, and Inquisition
Equal to that of the Library of Alexandria ablaze all those years before;
Tender paper scrolls releasing their wisdom and insight to the breezes still blowing.

So here's some music to drink with any leftover green beer or tea.
First is the Celtic Punk band, 'Dropkick Murphys,'
Followed by a few musical numbers, including Donovan's, 'Celtic Rock,'
U2 from the movie, "It Might Get Loud:" 'I Will Follow..' and a bit of Dublin
During 2009's St. Patrick's Day celebration.
Keep it going; the rest of March should turn green and follow.

Late O'clock with Shoegazers and More

What can I do with an hour such as this?
Neither here nor there - wakeful or sleepy.
Though the clarion call of my warm and comfy bed
Does seem to be hovering in the air round my head.

I know there are friends awake to talk to or chat with
... in Korea, Australia, India, Scotland, France...

There's nothing for it but to eat rice crackers, listen to
Psychedelic music and try to write... get back on the horse
Good horse; always there, patient, waiting for me to ride again.
Some horses don't even like the feel of a 100+ lb. person
On their back... but not this one.
It's all up to me.

East of Clintwood

Hard to believe it's been round about 10 years
Since this song and video came out
"Clint Eastwood" by The Gorillaz
Love the spaghetti western influence,
In the sound and the setting too.
Cemetery from "The Good, The Bad,
and The Ugly." A thought.

"I ain't happy; I'm feeling glad;
Got sunshine in a bag...
I'm useless, but not for long.
The future is coming on."

'Sunshine in a bag' reminds me of the recently
Purchased 'Light Box' for winter or northern climes.
It really does seem to help, even if you aren't quite S.A.D. enough.

Good to talk with civility about most subjects, isn't it?

'Useless, hopefully not for long,' also rings a bell.

Anyway... those four lines are very interesting to me
And even if they weren't... the song is irreparably
Caught in an endless loop as an enticing earworm...
Thanks, JD... and that isn't a shred of sarcasm you hear.

Can you remember when?

Dearest Dilly Done Gone

One day, a beautiful feline:
A vital part of our wee family.
Rescued from a feral life in a tiny body.
Runt of the litter of a tired-out too-young Mam

One and a half years old,
Bottle-fed, Daddy's girl.
Yesterday she was gone.
Suddenly; just like that.
No answers; no reason given.

A shock, much gratitude...
Celebration for the time we're given.

A beloved form, spirit fled.

More to say about her humanitarian
Service... unconditional, an offering of innocence.
But not yet. Not yet.

The rest is silence.
For now...

Dawn Was My Friend in Second Grade

"A time-lapse video looking out towards Aldeburgh, across the River Alde
and the spectacular reed beds at Snape Maltings.
Music: 'Dawn Sea Interlude' from Benjamin Britten's 'Peter Grimes'.
"

My day starts in the middle - the darkest part
Then Dawn comes in - Aurora ~ a punctuation mark.
What a change it is ... the birds waken first
And sing their varied songs in salute and gratitude
While I head back to sleep to gain
A bit more strength and solitude.
